投稿標題(英): Reduction in catheter-associated urinary tract infections by bundling interventions in a sub-acute respiratory care ward

投稿摘要: Background: The aim of was to estimate the effectiveness of an intervention program by implementing urinary catheter bundle elements to reduce the CAUTI frequency.
Methods: In stage 1 (Mar -Sept, 2017), Foley indwelling days and CAUTI rate were recorded by the staff. In phase 2 (Oct 2017 to Apr 2018), the implemented CAUTI prevention bundle that included: setting clear expectations for indications for indwelling urinary catheter use; catheter insertion using aseptic technique and sterile equipment; catheter maintenance; hand hygiene.
Results: When comparing to stage 1, significant reduction was found as implementing CAUTI bundle care in stage 2 in the Foley catheterization rate (26% vs. 21%; p = 0.17), indwelling Foley catheter days (6.5 days vs. 2.5 days; p ＜ 0.005), and the incidence of CAUTI (6.8‰ vs. 0.0‰ ; p ＜ 0.005).
Conclusions: Increased compliance to recommended catheter associated urinary tract infections preventive practices reduced the incidence of CAUTI.
