投稿標題(英): Contact Investigations and Treatment for Latent Tuberculosis Infection in Health Care Workers

投稿摘要: Tuberculosis is a significant health problem globally and health care workers are at increased risk of contracting tuberculosis infection. Transmission of tuberculosis is an important occupational health problem among health care workers. Reactivation of latent Tuberculosis is an important source of active infection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Investigations of contacts and treatment of contacts with latent TB infection became a policy in the control and elimination of TB in Taiwan.
In 2009, a patient in the psychiatric ward was found to have pulmonary tuberculosis. The CXR showed cavity lesion in right upper lung and acid-fast stain of sputum reported 4+. Contact investigation was conducted.
A total of 86 health care workers working in the ward with possible exposure to tuberculosis were included in the contact investigation. The health care workers were asked for risk factors for TB and tested with tuberculin skin test and the QuantiFERON TB Gold In-Tube test. Latent tuberculosis infection was diagnosed in 10 health care workers and 9 of them complete treatment. The characteristics of contacts and cases were analysis. Factors associated with complete treatment and adverse effects were reviewed.
