投稿摘要: A surge of MDRAB positive specimens were detected from the SICU between Dec 12, 2012 to Jan 13, 2013. MDRAB was isolated from 11 patients (5 infections & 6 colonizations). Cultures of the environment and healthcare workers’ hands were done using standardized culture methods and susceptibility tests. Molecular subtyping was used to determine the source of infection. 70 environmental and 34 hand cultures were obtained, 43% (13/30) of cultures from the patient zone, and 10% (4/40) from the health-care zone were positive for MDRAB. Cultures of healthcare workers’ hands were negative. A single clone of MDRAB was found in 17 environmental and patient isolates by PFGE. Investigation found that hand hygiene and cleaning procedures were not rigorously performed. Interventions included increased staff awareness, cohort care, rigorous environmental cleaning, strict infection control practices and checklists to ensure adherence. These interventions successfully curbed further spread of MDRAB.
