投稿標題(英): Implementation of Care Bundles for Central Venous Catheters in the Intensive Care Units in a Regional Teaching Hospital

投稿摘要: Care bundles for central venous catheters have been documented as an evidence-based approach to reduce the incidence of catheter-related blood stream infections (CRBSI). A group of best practices included hand hygiene, avoidance of femoral access, maximal barrier precaution, skin sterilization using chlorhexidine gluconate, and daily review and early removal of unnecessary central lines were implanted in our medical and surgical ICUs since Aug. 2011.The mean incidence densities of CRBSI were 6.44 /103 catheter days in 2011/8-12 (1st period),5.32 in 2012/1-12 (2nd period), and 2.90 in 2013/1-8 (3rd period ) in the ICUs. The average rates of completeness of checklists were 58.1% in 1st period, 59.4% in 2nd period, and 71.7% in 3rd period in the ICUs. The correlation coefficients (Pearson’s r) between CRBSI and completeness of checklists were 0.973 (p=0.07) for ICUs. We concluded that implementing care bundles reduce the CRBSI in the ICUs.
