投稿標題(英): Needlestick and sharp injuries among medical technogists in the general hospital

投稿摘要: Background: Needlestick and sharp injuries are one of the common occupation hazard for the entire hospital staff. Literature available on injuries among clinical laboratory workers is little. Methods: Descriptive studies were used to reviewed the reports on needlestick and sharp injury events collecting from the clinical laboratory between January 2006 and December 2012. Results: 18 reports on needlestick and sharp injury events among medical technogists were reviewed. The most common type of activities taking place when the injuries occurred were between steps of a multi-step procedure and disassembling device or equipment. HBsAg positive rate and anti-HCV positive rate of the source patients were 6% and 11% respectively. Until now, HBsAg positive seroconversion rate and anti-HCV positive seroconversion rate of staffs have been 0 %. The unique strategy to prevent injuries was to implement the use of devices with safety features. Conclusions: The characteristics of needlestick and sharp injuries among medical technogists are not the same as the ones of other health care workers. The effective prevention and intervention program for medical technogists should be implemented in the clinical laboratory.
